Chocolate Caramel Crispy
Ingredients
- 6 chopped Mars Bar
- 100g Butter
- 120g Rice Krispies
- 150g Milk Chocolate
Instructions
- Grease and line a 20 × 20 cm (8 × 8 inch) square baking tin with parchment paper, leaving a slight overhang for easy removal.
- Place the chopped chocolate caramel bars and butter into a heatproof bowl. Set the bowl over a saucepan of gently simmering water, ensuring the base does not touch the water. Stir continuously until fully melted and smooth, then remove from the heat.
- Put the rice cereal into a large mixing bowl. Pour over the warm chocolate caramel mixture and stir gently until the cereal is evenly coated. Transfer the mixture to the prepared tin and press it down firmly, smoothing the surface. Set aside.
- Melt the milk chocolate using a microwave in short bursts or over a pan of gently simmering water, stirring until smooth.
- Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the cereal base.
- Leave to set in a cool place or refrigerate until fully firm. Once set, lift out of the tin, cut into squares, and serve.
Tips
- Press the rice cereal mixture firmly into the tin to ensure the bars don’t fall apart when sliced.
- Let the caramel layer set completely in the fridge before pouring the chocolate over the top to keep the layers distinct.
- Score the chocolate top with a warm knife before it fully sets to prevent the chocolate from cracking when you cut the bars.
Variations
- Peanut Butter Crispy: Add 2 tablespoons of peanut butter to the caramel layer for a ‘Snickers’ style bar.
- White Chocolate: Use melted white chocolate for the top layer for a sweeter, creamier finish.
