  8. Chill for 10–15 minutes before serving for the classic soft tramezzino texture.

Tips

  • Use very fresh, soft sandwich bread for the authentic texture.
  • Chill the sandwiches before serving to help them hold their shape.
  • Pat the tomato slices dry to prevent the bread from becoming soggy.

Variations

  • Replace the ham with tuna and boiled egg for a traditional Venetian variation.
  • Add grilled vegetables for a vegetarian version.
  • Use mortadella instead of ham for a richer flavour.

Storage

Tramezzini are best enjoyed fresh. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. They are not suitable for freezing.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve with olives and crisps for a light lunch.
  • Pair with a simple green salad.
  • Enjoy alongside an espresso or sparkling water.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make tramezzini ahead of time?

Yes. Prepare them a few hours in advance and keep them refrigerated, covered to prevent the bread from drying out.

What bread is best for tramezzini?

Soft white sandwich bread without crusts gives the most authentic result.

Can I freeze tramezzini?

Freezing is not recommended because the bread and fresh fillings lose their texture after thawing.
